Builders on the brink as stress soars

-

NEARLY four in 10 building workers are facing the worst stress and anxiety they have ever known.

One in four are owed at least £1,000 by clients for work done, says a survey for the industry’s own radio station Fix.

Others are struggling with soaring demand for their skills, the rocketing cost of materials and a raft of new environment laws.

The result is a suicide rate three times the national average.

As Mental Health Awareness Week begins tomorrow, Radio Fix’s Clive Holland urged builders to drop their macho image and ask colleagues for support if they feel stressed.
