Nasal spray could prevent Covid
Groundbreaking tests of nasal sprays that could prevent all variants of Covid taking hold are progressing to human trials.
The spray contains proteins that stop the virus attaching to the body’s cells, meaning it is less likely to cause an infection.
American researchers at Northwestern University and the University of Washington developed the spray and have tested it on mice. They found it reduced Covid symptoms in some and prevented the disease altogether in others.
Scientists hope if the trials are successful, the spray will be available in pharmacies, bypassing the need for medical professionals.
