Air update

The last great global aviation frontier will be conquered in 2025 when 20-hour non-stop flights from London to Sydney take off.

Australian flag carrier Qantas has ordered 12 European-built Airbus A350-1000 aircraft for its endurance flying Project Sunrise.

Jets will feature new levels of comfort for all 238 passengers on the journey which will chop up to four hours off the current services which refuel or change planes in the likes of Dubai and Singapore.

Turn lefters will get luxurious first class suites (pictured) with a separate bed, recliner lounge chair and personal wardrobe or a nextgeneration business suite.

The main cabins will offer a new premium economy 40in seat pitch and an economy seat with a generous 33in legroom, while everyone has access to a dedicated Wellbeing Zone designed for movement, stretching and hydration to stay healthy during the marathon 10,600 mile flights, which will also include a new non-stop trip from New York City.

Qantas chief Alan Joyce said: “This will make almost any city in the world just one flight away from Australia. It’s the last frontier.’’
