Former champ Brook counts it out
BOXING
KELL BROOK has announced his retirement from boxing at the age of 36 after insisting his “heart is no longer in it”.
Britain’s former world welterweight champion (above) has called time on his career just three months after he stopped rival Amir Khan in a grudge match in Manchester.
“I’ve had a long chat with my family and my parents, and it’s over for me,” said the Sheffield fighter.
“I’ll never box again. My heart’s no longer in it, I’ve got nothing left to prove. It’s emotional to be actually saying this out loud.
“My mam (Julie) is relieved. I think everyone around me is pleased.”
Brook recorded 40 wins in 43 pro fights with his three defeats coming at the hands of middleweight Gennady Golovkin and welterweights Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr.
The ‘Special K’ held the IBF world title from 2014 to 2017.
