Magpies face fight for Inacio

NEWCASTLE and Manchester United are going head-to-head to sign 20-year-old Sporting Lisbon star Goncalo Inacio.

The central defender (above), who can also play at left-back, was a target for Newcastle in January, but their bid was swiftly rebuffed by Sporting.

Now, however, the club are willing to listen to offers of around £40million for the Portugal Under-21 international.

AC Milan are also in the race but a source close to the player said: “If there is a choice then Goncalo prefers the Premier League.”

Inacio has a contract until June

2026 and directors at Sporting say they will only be tempted by a big offer.

The club has a close relationship with United and will offer the Red Devils first option on Inacio’s signature, despite more intense interest from Toon.
