Grealish: Real pain is an edge

- BY STEVE BATES

JACK GREALISH has shot down critics who believe Manchester City could choke on the title run-in after their shock Champions League exit in Madrid.

The £100million City and England star missed golden chances to put City in total control against Real Madrid before their astonishing defeat in the Bernabeu.

That’s piled the pressure on Pep Guardiola and his stars to keep Liverpool at bay and close out their fourth Premier League title in five seasons.

But Grealish reckons their Euro nightmare will spur City on to become domestic champions again.

“Yes, 100 percent. That is what we are here to do.

That is why, in my opinion, we are the best team in the Premier League because we want to win stuff,” he said.

“We put that pressure on ourselves to constantly win trophies, and the club as a whole has done that over the last 10 years especially.

“We have the Premier League to go and play for now. It is in our hands.

“We have four important games coming up and the game the other night certainly gives us more of an edge to go and do that.

“At City, one thing that I have realised is you have so many important games that come thick and fast.

“The pressure is good. I came here to try and lift trophies and have medals.

“Once you play in the Premier League, then you think, ‘Imagine winning it one day’. For me, it would be a dream come true.”

But it won’t be easy against Newcastle at the Etihad today with Eddie Howe’s stars on the up.

Grealish added: “They have been brilliant since Eddie came in. They have made a few good signings and they have had a turnaround in form, so fair play to them.”
