Critch: it’s a shocker

- By AARON SUTCLIFFE at the Weston Homes Stadium

NEIL CRITCHLEY said sorry to the travelling supporters after Blackpool were embarrassed by relegated Peterborough.

Sammie Szmodics netted a second-half brace with Jonson Clarke-Harris, Jack Marriott and Jack Taylor all on target for Posh, who rounded off a disappointing campaign in style.

The defeat marked Critchley’s heaviest defeat in charge of Blackpool – and the club’s biggest loss in seven years.

Critchley blasted: “It’s the first time I have to apologise to the fans for that performance.

“We saved our worst performance until the last game of the season. We didn’t look like scoring, we just weren’t good enough.

“It’s the first time in my two years here that I’ve questioned the appetite and application of the players.”

For Posh, the result marked their first home clean sheet since February as they return to League One.

Boss Grant McCann said: “We’re not happy we’re relegated, it’s still a bitter pill to swallow, we’ve got an opportunity now to rebuild and regroup and go again.”
