Prescripti­on costs frozen

NHS prescripti­on charges will stay at £9.35 this year as Tories attempt to tackle the cost-of-living crisis.

This will be the first time in 12 years the price of medicines has not gone up in line with inflation and will save around 58p on each prescribed item.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid said the move will put a total of £17million “back in people’s pockets”.

Also frozen are threemonth £30.25 prepayment certificat­es and 12-month versions at £108.10.
