Steep spike in homeless ex-soldiers
NUMBERS of homeless veterans have risen by a shocking 50% since the start of the pandemic.
Eleven armed forces charities say two years of Covid and the cost of living crisis have fuelled the huge spike in heroes sleeping rough – and fear the numbers will keep rising.
They also warn that rates of mental health issues, particularly PTSD and depression, have risen.
The group has launched a No Homeless Veterans Campaign, which calls on local authorities and other services to make sure they identify veterans and help them find suitable housing.
Richard Gammage, CEO of charity Stoll, said: “We’ve seen a steep rise. Without action, the situation could get much worse.”
