Suicide risk of men who can’t tell all
MIDDLE-AGED men are the least likely to tell their GP about mental health issues and the most likely to commit suicide, says a leading specialist.
Dr Andres Fonseca says many people do not like sharing their concerns but males in their middle years are least keen to seek help.
For Mental Health Awareness Week, he told GB News that suicide is “one of the main causes of death for men in that age”.
A perceived stigma about mental illness was a major factor, plus difficulty describing symptoms.
“It’s like, ‘I can’t demonstrate it to you… I can’t show you something to prove it,’ ” said Dr Fonesca.
