Drivers delay MOT defects ‘due to cost’
AS many as three million faulty cars are on UK roads, data suggests.
A freedom of information request to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency revealed 2,977,105 MOT passes were issued last year with “minor defect” advisories.
Owners are urged to sort advisories “as soon as possible” but a survey by garage network Eurorepar Car Service found 68% of people would put repairs off due to the cost.
Advisories typically flag up parts that are wearing out, such as tyres and suspension, exhaust and brake components.
Eurorepar, which criticised recent calls to reduce the MOT to once every two years, said defects can “quite quickly escalate into a dangerous issue”.
