UK passengers will be among the first to experience the long-awaited new superjumbo

Premium Economy cabin from Dubai carrier Emirates.

The debut of the class on the double-decker Airbus A380 jets from Heathrow will feature a dedicated check-in area and, once on board, expect luxury 19.5inwide leather seats, six-way adjustable headrests, calf rests and footrests, charging points and a side cocktail table.

Each seat has a 13.3in screen with up to 5,000 channels of entertainment, plus passengers get a sustainable blanket, pillow, and amenity kits made with recycled or sustainable materials.

Dining at 38,000ft will be inspired by the airline’s business class, served on chinaware with seasonal ingredients and regional influences. Accompanied by top wines, there will be liqueurs and chocolates after meals, with the promise of upscale service.

Emirates president Sir Tim Clark said: “As with everything we do, Emirates Premium Economy will be exceptional in its class, with minute attention given to every aspect of the experience.’’

Premium Economy, which will cost 10-15% more than the highest economy fares, will soon be rolled out on another 120 jets in the fleet.

Tickets for the UAE route go on sale on June 1 for travel starting on August 1. emirates.com
