PLANT of the week Holboellia brachyandra

-

It’s finally happened – the holboellia on my verandah has flowered! It has been growing vigorously for years and while the foliage is attractive and evergreen, the flowers are the attraction.

I can tell you they’re worth the wait – lots of off-white bell-shaped flowers that have a most delectable subtle scent of melons.

Also known as the sausage vine, the flower will form funny sausage-shaped fruits. Best grown in well-drained soil in sun or part shade in a sheltered spot.
