A FINAL WE ALL CRAVED

- Interview: David Maddock

THE Champions League Final in Paris, it doesn’t get any better than that.

Truly, Real Madrid against Liverpool is quite possibly the final the whole world wanted to see right now.

I’d say, and I doubt many would argue, that Jurgen Klopp’s team and Manchester City are the two best sides in football at this time, yet I’m not sure the rest of the world particularly wanted that match-up.

Real are the great European team, their name evokes so much emotion when it comes to the Champions League.

And with all respect to City’s quality, as Pep Guardiola himself said this week, his club don’t have the European pedigree and heritage of Liverpool.

Madrid have also shown, with wins over Paris SaintGermain, Chelsea and City in the knockout, they deserve to be there. They really do. So it’s the final EVERYONE wanted, and you can’t call it.

Hell, if Real win, they deserve it, because they’ve done it the hard way. Two-down against PSG with half an hour to go, trailing Chelsea with 10 minutes to go, and two-down against City in the last minute.

Impossible, each time, but somehow they found a way. It suggests fate is with them. History is certainly with them.

But I’ll stick my neck out and state that if both sides turn up and play to their maximum, Liverpool win.

I genuinely think they have the edge, and the game to beat Real. But then PSG, Chelsea and City had the edge and thought the same.

And how often do sides turn up in finals and everyone really does play to their max?

This isn’t the Real Madrid of the past but it’s still a team with fight like you’ve never seen. This is quite possibly the best Liverpool team of all time.

It is the final of dreams, and the whole world will savour it.
