Deborah was a superhero

I cried at the news that Dame Deborah James had passed away. This 40-year-old – a superhero in my eyes – was a wife, mother and just too young to leave this world. My heart breaks for her family and friends. A remarkable woman and activist, she raised awareness of how to spot symptoms of bowel cancer. She didn’t beat about the bush – it’s important, as she said, to check your poo.

Her BowelBabe fund to aid clinical trials and research stands at £7.1million. I was lucky to have met Dame Deborah once and I will never forget her smile, positivity, passion and zest for life.
