Could you train pup?
Hard-up animal lovers who can’t afford a pet are being urged to help train up Guide Dogs. They would look after a pooch for around 12 to 16 months, with all costs covered by the charity and help provided with both training and socialisation.
It comes after Guide Dogs research showed a third of dog lovers are put off having their own pet by the expense, and a quarter by the long-term commitment.
The charity has now launched a dating appstyle Puppy Raiser programme in which dogs will be matched to potential owners. Haley Andrews of Guide Dogs said: “There are many benefits to having a dog, but it’s understandable costs and commitment are main concerns.
“As a Puppy Raiser, you get all the wonderful upsides of having a dog, but with costs covered.
“All you have to commit to is the puppy’s first year before he or she becomes a life-changing guide dog for someone with sight loss.”
