Stay alert as energy scam rats home in

- BY KAREN ROCKETT

PEOPLE moving home or switching energy provider are the top targets in a new wave of financial fraud.

Figures show the UK is the global capital for scams, with £1.3billion plundered last year. And the cost of living crisis is set to fuel the crimewave.

Colum Smith, of law firm Taylor Rose MW, said: “Criminals are targeting those looking to save money on energy bills.

“Be wary of emails or texts suggesting deals or special offers requiring you to sign up and pass on your bank details.”

Jack Roberts, of property firm SlothMove, added: “Lots of people fail to get their mail forwarded.

“Personal details are lying around or can end up in bins – and these are a goldmine to criminals.”
