MARTYRS LANE

On DVD and digital from Monday

Big on atmosphere but low on scares, this supernatural yarn takes us to a creepy vicarage in rural England where a lonely little girl finds a ghostly playmate.

Dad Thomas (Steven Cree) is busy tending his flock, mum Sarah (Denise Gough) is always on the brink of tears and big sister Bex (Hannah Rae) is a bully. So 10-year-old Leah

(Kiera Thompson) is delighted when she spots the curly-haired apparition of another little girl (Sienna Sayer) at her bedroom window.

Every night, the pair play a game, Two Truths One Lie, which ends up with the ghost sending Leah on a treasure hunt around the sprawling house. The kids are great but the plot is thin, the pace slow, and the twist obvious.
