Stay motivated to find out What’s Next

- By Kevin Webber

A while back on Facebook I came across a man called Steve Hill, a runner, but one who was also named Teacher of the Year for his work as an amazing deputy head of a middle school in Oldham, Greater Manchester.

As a fellow long-distance runner I thought it would be a good idea to be his Facebook friend so I could follow his journey (and, humbly, so he could follow mine ).

Steve has also set up a charity, Team Hill Charitable Trust, and done some amazing things for both his local community and people further afield in Uganda, where he regularly runs in a charity marathon and helps community projects.

Unsurprisingly, Steve received an MBE from the Queen for his good work (and Steve actually made the Queen laugh as he was presented with the award too!).

Roll on a couple of years and Steve came to meet me when I was on my Trip to Tipp. We hit it off so well that two days later he turned up and walked the final UK leg with me, which gave me a real lift as, at the time, I was struggling.

While we walked he talked about how inspiring my journey was from what he had read in my book, Dead

Man Running, and then said he was in the process of finalising his book. Of course,

I couldn’t wait to read it as I love real-life adventure/personal journey books.

Last week, Steve’s book was finally launched with a title that really got me thinking. The book is called What’s Next Sir because one of his school pupils was so enthralled with what he had done he could not wait to hear the next challenge. That child’s question resonated with my own life too as, just like Steve, I believe that we should never stop chasing dreams and helping others along the way.

If you are wondering how you can make the world a better place while enjoying life, you could do worse than to get his book. It may just be the motivation you need. As they say if you shoot for the moon you may get to reach the stars.

Until next week, Kev
