HELL HATH NO FURY

Joshua: There’s no way I want to be trained by Tyson... I only listen to people that I respect

ANTHONY JOSHUA has hit back at Tyson Fury’s offer to train him by saying: There is nothing he could teach me.

A fortnight ago, WBC world heavyweight champ Fury questioned Joshua’s decision to team up with Robert Garcia after parting company with Rob McCracken.

The self-styled Gypsy King claimed the only way his fellow Brit would win back the WBA, WBO and IBF belts he lost to Oleksandr Usyk last year was if he let Fury train him for his rematch with the Ukrainian next month. But Joshua is having none of it. And he said: “Is there anything I could learn from him? Honestly, no, not really.

“For a man that’s retired, go and have a beer, relax, go and help some people who need it. What are you talking about me for?

“He’s an interesting character, but I wouldn’t take his help as well.

“I have done my thing, he has done his and good luck to him whatever he is doing.”

For now, what Fury is doing is enjoying retirement after beating Dillian Whyte in April.

Although Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn are adamant they can tempt him back into the ring again – if Usyk is sent packing.

Hearn said: “Let’s be honest, when AJ wins his fight, that’s happening.

“It’s the biggest fight ever in boxing – not just in boxing today.”

Joshua added: “It’s his choice because this is a fight we’ve been chasing for how many years?

“We were this close and then the arbitration happened, and then it fell through.

“We were already in preparation for it, about two weeks, and then it changed like, ‘Nah, done’, and then we’re fighting Usyk.

“It’s not up to us, Fury has to make that decision for himself – but he will fight.”

Fury is not the only heavyweight who has been talking about Joshua, with Joe Joyce claiming the former champion is more businessman than fighter these days and that he has a glass jaw.

Laughing, Joshua said: “He’s a businessman as well, he was promoting a personal trimmer the other week, wasn’t he?

“We’re all trying to promote something and be businessmen, he’s

promoting trimmers – I don’t.

“What’s good for him is not good for me, I don’t

cuss him for it so he needs to just focus on

himself.

“I definitely don’t have a chin like Joe Joyce and I definitely wouldn’t want to take the punch that Joe Joyce takes, either.

“But good luck to him whatever he’s doing and he’s on my his list as well so… all with good timing, Joe will get what’s coming to him.”

First on Joshua’s list is his shot at regaining his belts against Usyk and he wants redemption.

He added: “Things happen – not just in boxing, but in life in general – and if they do happen to you, don’t get too down about it, just keep your head up.

“That’s just my whole take on it and I just live some of my stuff out in public, some of my stuff ’s in private.

“In sport, winning is the only thing.

“That’s the only thing everyone’s interested in, so, God willing, I come back and I do what’s right and become a threetime champion.”
