BALE TO SING FOR SUPPER

- BY RICHARD EDWARDS

GARETH BALE is aiming to take his A game to Los Angeles FC as he bids to help the west coast side into the MLS play-offs – but he better be sure to pack his singing voice as well.

Italy and Juventus legend Giorgio Chiellini was unveiled in front of the club’s 3252 supporters’ group on Wednesday night.

And Chiellini, 37, was immediately handed a megaphone and asked to belt out the club’s victory song.

It wasn’t a vintage performance from the veteran centre-back.

But it gave Bale (above), who joined the club from Real Madrid last month, a glimpse of what will be expected of him.

“Chiellini was getting drenched with water by his team-mates as he was singing and he was loving it,” said Warren Barton, the former England defender who now covers the MLS for Fox Sports.

“He was jumping up and down and loving it.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how Gareth gets on, because he’s less of an extrovert. But the fans will want to embrace him and will want him to be part of that. Maybe he can sing some Tom Jones for them. It will a good test of that Welsh voice.”

On the pitch, Bale is joining a franchise which is definitely on the up.

LA FC are currently top of Western Conference and under the guidance of

Steve Cherundolo have emerged as one of the stand-out MLS sides.

Barton said: “Gareth is a world class player. It very much reminds me of when Steven Gerrard came over here to play for LA Galaxy.

“It puzzles me as a pundit and a coach that anyone would question what Gareth’s qualities are.

“Look at his CV. I know it didn’t end as he would have liked at Madrid but he has won pretty much everything there is to win in club football.

“There’s huge excitement here at the moment. It’s a real statement from LA FC.

“They’re flying at the top of the league, they’ve brought in Bale and

Chiellini – plus Carlos Vela has just signed a new deal.

“Gareth couldn’t be going to a better franchise.”
