Fury at slow progress on fuel inquiry
FUEL campaigners have demanded a probe into soaring petrol prices is published within weeks, not three months.
In June, Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng asked the Competition and Markets Authority to examine record prices.
But FairFuelUK called on the CMA to “complete the essential investigation in weeks” amid fears it could take until October.
Founder Howard Cox said: “The CMA must examine overwhelming evidence of the fuel supply chain’s blatant and continuing profiteering.”
The AA agreed retailers were quick to hike prices when costs rise, but slow to cut them when they fall.
The average price of a litre of unleaded is 190.81p, with diesel at 198.58p.
Sarah Cardell, chief adviser to the CMA, said: “If evidence of collusion or similar misconduct emerges, we will not hesitate to take action.”
