British crew break Black Sea record

- BY KAREN ROCKETT

A BRITISH university lecturer and his crew are believed to have smashed the world record for rowing across the Black Sea.

The Loughborough University team covered the 745 miles between Romania and Georgia in nine days, 18 hours – beating the previous record of 11 days, six hours.

Captain Dr Danny Longman, along with Roland Burr, Alex Dumbrava and Gregg Botterman, are now waiting for the record to be verified by Guinness World Records.

Dr Longman said: “It was a fantastic feeling to achieve the target. Large container ships coming by were really interested in what we were up to.”
