Cops must quiz Doherty over death of my son

Mum raps star’s account in book

A WOMAN whose son died in a fall from a block of flats after partying with rocker Pete Doherty wants the star to face a new police quiz.

Sheila Blanco has spoken out after The Libertines singer dedicated a chapter of his new autobiography to the night 30-year-old Mark died in 2006.

Doherty has always insisted he had no idea what happened.

But Sheila claims his account of her Cambridge graduate son’s death seeem to be a bid to present himself as a victim.

She claimed the police probe at the time “made Inspector Clouseau look good”.

Sheila added: “Together with all those who love Mark, I seek truth and justice. Nothing less.”

In his book, A Likely Lad, Doherty recalls being pinned against a wall at an East London party by aspiring 6ft 4in actor Mark, who asked the Up The Bracket singer to support his play.

Doherty, 43, who has battled drug addiction for decades, wrote: “He was huge. He had me pinned in a corner… he kept banging on about crack… he was saying it in a derogatory way to me, taking the p***.” The rocker told how he was “utterly horrified” when he later found Mark on the street with “blood coming out of his head” and admits he “legged it away” as he’d had a string of run-ins with police and didn’t want any more trouble.

Doherty said he then went on to a party with pals at his hotel, adding he was “on ketamine, having vowed to get more out of my head than ever before” due to the “stress” of finding Mark’s body.

He said he only knew Mark had fallen from a balcony when he read about it in the papers two days later.

Doherty told how he feels “desperately sad about the whole thing”.

He wrote: “It breaks my heart his mum is not satisfied and thinks I had anything to do with her son’s death.”

Sheila urged Doherty to speak to the police – and also questioned why the rocker had chosen to write about her son’s death in such detail in his autobiography.

The Metropolitan Police said: “This investigation is ongoing. Any new evidence will be assessed. We will appraise Mr Blanco’s family of any developments.”
