IRISH EYES HOPING TO SMILE FOR EOIN

(right) retired from internatio­nal cricket at the end of June, aged 35, after a glorious seven-and-a-halfyear reign that witnessed the transforma­tion of England’s fortunes.

And, according to ICC rules, in three years’ time,

he would be eligible to play for the country of his birth once again. “The ICC require a three-year standout period,” said Warren Deutrom, the CEO of Cricket Ireland.

“Could Eoin return to play for us? Technicall­y, yes. But I’m sure we wouldn’t be the only organisati­on looking at his services.

“With Eoin’s talent and leadership skills, he can probably do anything he wants. Not least there will be a few commentary boxes graced by his presence.”
