Lucy: No cracking this Heg

LUCY BRONZE has warned England that Norway ace Ada Hegerberg is a goalobsessive with a mentality you just cannot crack.

Lionesses right-back Bronze says her former team-mate at Lyon – a Ballon d’Or winner – is out on her own as a player due to her tough mindset.

England face Hegerberg’s Norway at Brighton’s Amex Stadium tomorrow in a potentially pivotal Group A clash.

The Lionesses did not have to face the striker at the World Cup three years ago – she had stepped away from the national side in 2017 in a protest over the way women’s football was treated in Norway.

But the birthday girl – 27 today – returned from her five-year exile in March and hit a hat-trick in her comeback game.

Bronze said: “Ada is just a winner – the girl is crazy in that respect.

“She’s just obsessed with scoring and with wanting to win the ball.

“There’s not many No.9s who can score goals and then will get back and make tackles and put their bodies on the line.

“She’s so tall and she’s got pace and strength, fitness. I think the big thing that separates her for me is that crazy mentality she’s got – it’s something you can’t really affect.

“You can’t really get in her head, but I might try!”

Norway have a number of stars playing for the best clubs in Europe.

Bronze added: “Even without Ada, they’ve got a good set of players.

“I think Caroline Graham Hansen, of Barcelona, is the player they rely on.

“I remember in the World Cup, she played the game of her life before we played them.

“But it’s got to be better for players such as her and Chelsea’s Guro Reiten – who have had to come up with the big performances for Norway – that they’ve now got another player, in Ada, who can take them to another level.”
