HIS grandfathers were Manchester City legends and he has made seven first-team appearances for the club he joined as an eight-year-old.

But now hot prospect Tommy Doyle is ready to write his next chapter away from the Etihad Stadium.

The 20-year-old midfielder (right) this week joined Sheffield United on a seasonlong loan and believes it can help him to realise his dream of becoming a first-team regular under Pep Guardiola.

Academy graduate Doyle, who spoke to Guardiola before heading to

Bramall Lane, said: “We agreed it was important for someone of my age to go out and play as much as possible, to get first-team experience.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to play in every competition for Manchester City – FA Cup, the Premier League, Champions League and League Cup.

“City will always have a special place in my heart. It would be a dream for me to play there every week and it’s something I’d love to do

because that’s my club, who I have grown up supporting.

“But that’s something for the future because I appreciate where I am now at Sheffield United. It’s a massive club and, hopefully, I can help the team get back to the Premier League.

“There’s a lot of work to be done and I’m looking forward to it, but the ambition is to win the Championship and certainly get promoted.”
