Shapps ‘must quit’ if train strikes go on
FOUR in 10 voters think Transport Secretary Grant Shapps should resign if there are more rail strikes this summer.
And nearly a third of those unhappy with his handling of the industrial action are Conservative voters, says a poll commissioned by the Lib Dems.
It comes as rail unions announced plans for another walkout on July 27.
No minister in the Department of Transport met rail unions to discuss the issues for at least a month before the last round of crippling strikes.
Lib Dem Transport spokeswoman Wera Hobhouse said: “If Grant Shapps is refusing to meet unions and actually do his job, then he should frankly lose it. It’s a shambles.”
