Fans catch 5 jets to watch rugby defeat
FOUR rugby fans flew 11,000 miles on five planes to make yesterday’s final in Wales’ summer tour of South Africa.
The 36-hour epic began when their Birmingham Airport flight was axed on Tuesday – and there were no more for four days. But the four 60-something friends made it to Cape Town by Thursday night.
Roger Francis, from Cwmtwrch, Swansea, said: “It was either go across Africa or go home so we thought, ‘Let’s do it!’ ”
He and pals Ryslwyn Kinsey, Paul Griffiths, and Gazzy Davies got a taxi to Heathrow, flew to Frankfurt, then Amsterdam, next Ghana, Nairobi, and finally Cape Town.
Wales put on an equally brave show – but lost.
