Bird poo puts hotel revamp in the doodoo
BIRD poo has put the restoration of a 15th Century building on hold.
The timber-frame Fleece Hotel is being converted into a boutique hotel.
But work has stopped due to health and safety fears after years’ worth of droppings were uncovered.
Richard Cook, leader of Gloucester council which is doing the work, said the mess was found during renovations.
He said: “This ‘strip out’ has led to identification of health and safety matters, for example the presence of bird droppings.”
The Fleece on Westgate Street has been empty since 2002 and is on Historic England’s Heritage at Risk Register.
