Leah & Jill’s bond after air terror

- BY LAURA CONNOR

LIONESSES’ captain Leah Williamson told how a terrifying mid-air incident helped bond her and her fellow players.

The Arsenal star, 25, was travelling to France in 2019 with the rest of her team when they “nearly went down”.

Speaking on team-mate Jill Scott’s BBC podcast Coffee Club, she said: “We were on an airplane going from place to place in the World Cup and this was like our fifth flight… the plane just drops mid-air.”

Jill, 35, added: “I have got a fear of flying. [The drop] was really bad. Even the pilot said it had never happened to him in like 30 years.”

Leah changed seats to sit next to Jill knowing she would struggle on the flight – before the pair knew it was going to drop. Leah said: “We bonded massively.”
