Passengers left behind as plane blazes
A CAPTAIN is said to have fled in terror, abandoning his passengers and crew, after his plane caught fire before take-off.
Hundreds of Brits flying to Birmingham from Barcelona were left on board as smoke filled the cabin.
Passenger Andrew Benion, 50, said: “It was completely shocking.”
The captain was reportedly first off yesterday’s flight – operated by Spanish budget airline Vueling – following an explosion, as panicked crew raced along the aisle.
It was left to one stewardess to yell at passengers to leave. A replacement plane was brought in for them – with a new captain.
Mr Benion added: “It was terrifying.”
Vueling was contacted for comment.
