White House losers show rift at rallies

- BY KAREN ROCKETT

DONALD Trump and his former vice-president Mike Pence joined rival rallies for Republican candidates fighting to be Arizona’s state governor.

They campaigned hours after Trump adviser Steve Bannon learned he could face a two-year jail term, as a jury ruled he was in contempt of Congress for refusing to co-operate with the probe into the Capitol riot of January 6, 2021.

Trump was speaking at an event for Kari Lake, who backs his false election fraud claims, while Pence backed her opponent, Karrin Taylor Robson. It is thought both men have plans to run for the US presidency in 2024.

They fell out after Pence certified President Joe Biden’s election victory in 2020 amid Trump’s claims it was stolen from him.
