Serbia refuses to extradite £25m Ecclestone heist suspect
SERBIA has refused to extradite a man wanted for one of Britain’s biggest ever burglaries.
Daniel Vukovic is accused of leading the gang who looted £25million of jewels from Tamara
Ecclestone’s London house.
Court papers obtained by the BBC show the Met Police applied to extradite him in April last year.
The documents accuse him of “conspiracy to commit a burglary” and for “conspiracy to launder money”. But Serbia refused the extradition of Vukovic, aka Ljubomir Romanov, because he was a “legal resident” of Serbia.
A treaty signed between the UK and Serbia in 1900 means each can deny extradition of its own citizens.
Last November three Italians were jailed for their role in raiding the homes of Ms Ecclestone, Frank Lampard and a townhouse belonging to the late Leicester City owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha in December 2019.
