Batteries are ‘time bombs’
DUMPED batteries have caused 600 fires in bin lorries and recycling centres in the last year.
A survey of 58 local authorities estimated the damage bill at £474million.
The rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are from devices like mobiles, scooters, e-cigs and cars.
The British Metals Recycling Association wants an awareness campaign and proper recycling scheme.
President Susie Burrage said: “These batteries are ticking time bombs.”
