IF you’re looking for love in later life, Manchester in the place to live.

A study found the city has a higher percentage of over-60s on the dating scene than anywhere else in Britain.

A whopping 9.8% of its 60+ population – that’s 7,200 people – are looking for a love match.

The second best place for older lovers is Liverpool, where 8.9% are looking to hook up, followed by

Glasgow, where 8.7% are searching for that special senior someone.

But older romantics should avoid Newport in South Wales, where only 0.5% of over-60s are on the dating scene. That’s just 175 people and makes the city the worst place to find a partner.

Carlisle has just 1.3% looking for love and Stirling 1.9%, according to the study by care home experts Lottie, which “analysed online dating platforms to find the best dating hotspots for older singles”.

Retired teacher Jonathan Worth, 66, backed up the research for his city, Manchester. He said: “There do seem to be quite a lot of people of my age on dating sites. I’ve been on three dates this year.”

But he felt sorry for his fellow over-60s in Newport. He said: “If there are only 175 singles there, you’ve probably already dated one or two of them earlier in life!”
