Harry, 8, to cycle the UK

-

A BOY of eight and his dad are cycling the length of Britain to raise money to protect hedgehogs.

Harry Peksa and dad Nick left Land’s End on Wednesday and expect to spend around 34 days cycling at least 1,100 miles to John O’ Groats at the tip of mainland Scotland.

Though the traditional cycle route for the challenge is 874 miles, the duo are planning to do more so they can enjoy park playgrounds and crazy golf courses along the way.

When he was six, Harry managed a 100-mile fiveday ride through the Forest of Dean with his dad as a Beaver Scouts challenge.

He is a keen hedgehog watcher and rides with a hedgehog soft toy tied to his handlebars.

By last night he had raised around £2,200 for Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital which cares for sick and injured animals.

Harry, from Wokingham, Berks, said: “I really love hedgehogs – they’re cute.

“We did a challenge two years ago that was also for Tiggywinkles and I thought, ‘Why not do it for the same charity?’ ”

Mr Peksa, 45, who rode from Land’s End to John O’Groats last year, said he and Harry would ride up to 40 miles a day and aim to finish on August 23.
