DENISE LEWIS: My ones to watch
FORMER Olympic and Commonwealth gold medallist Denise Lewis will be proud as punch when the Games begins this week as the competition is taking place on her home turf at the revamped Alexander Stadium.
The West Bromwichborn BBC pundit – who won heptathlon gold at the Sydney Olympics – picks three stars she expects to shine.
1.
(Team England)
Age: 27 Event: 400m He’s a local boy, a Birchfield Harrier, who broke Iwan Thomas’s long-standing British record a couple of months ago. That gives just a hint of his talent.
I’ve always said he has the X-Factor – he just needed to learn how to channel it to get the best out of himself on competition day.
Matt Hudson-Smith
2. Dina Asher-Smith
(Team England)
Age: 26 Events: 100m, 200m & relay
She’s in really good shape. She knows how to peak. That’s one really good characteristic of hers.
Dina (below) loves showcasing what she’s got. She’s a sprinter, she’s ballsy. It’s what you have to have. I’m expecting big things.
3.
(Team England)
Age: 30 Event: Pole Vault She’s been there or thereabouts at the Olympics – fifth in 2016 and she followed that with bronze in Tokyo.
Holly (below) has had problems this year. She’s been injured and her pole snapped at Eugene. But she’s experienced enough to cope with that.
