CATALANS DRAGONS got back to winning ways with a late Sam Tomkins drop-goal winner over Huddersfield in heatwave conditions in Perpignan.

“It was one of those games where small margins make a massive difference,” said Giants coach Ian Watson after the 78th-minute kick proved to be the difference between

the two sides. I thought our effort was outstanding and we had some real desire plays – but we should have been a bit smarter in certain areas.

“We’ve got to turn those efforts into wins now.”

Chris McQueen pounced to put the Giants ahead but the hosts responded before the break though Arthur Romano.

Benjamin Jullien crossed for the hosts early in the second half but Danny Levi levelled things up once more.

Will Pryce and Tomkins exchanged penalties late on – before Tomkins kicked the winning point in the final stages.

Huddersfield’s injury woes worsened when Oliver Russell left the pitch with his arm in a sling after picking up an apparent shoulder injury.
