Private medical insurance

Here in the UK we’re lucky enough to have the NHS and, because of that, many people would never consider taking out private medical insurance, regardless of their personal wealth.

But if you need to get back to work as quickly as possible after your circumstances change, private medical insurance will generally reduce the waiting time to be seen by a specialist and receive non-emergency treatment. It may also mean you get a private room after an emergency procedure.

Private medical insurance is particularly valuable for the self-employed. Again, some larger employers will offer it as part of their standard employment terms as a benefit in kind.
