Give me a gay man.. it’ll be like dancing with his mum
Strictly Kaye’s plan to spare show blushes
TELLY presenter Kaye Adams has made it onto Strictly – and says the best way to spare her blushes is to give her a gay partner.
The Loose Women favourite, 59, said: “I don’t want a heterosexual. I would feel embarrassed for them. Because for a young, hot heterosexual it will be like he’s dancing with his mum.”
But, she reasoned: “If I got a nice gay guy, he’ll be fine with dancing with his mum!”
Kaye revealed she was close to turning down Strictly through fear of looking “tragic” and does not have high hopes for her stint on the BBC One show.
She said: “All the sexy stuff, oh my God, it just gives me the ick.”
The mum of two added: “I’m worried it’s going to look tragic, a woman of my age – the whole thing about trying to appear dance-y when you’re older.
“I am terrified. Everything in me wanted to say, ‘No!’”
But she added: “If I enjoy it, it will be a success. If I get voted out in the first week, so be it.”
The Stirlingshire-born star also believes being Scottish could be a disadvantage.
She said: “I think
Scottish people... we’re just not used to being expressive.
“Other people have cultures that are more dance based, movement based. We do Scottish country dancing, chucking each other around.”
But Kaye, who hosts the podcast How To Be 60 as she approaches that age later this year, admitted doing Strictly is a “bucket list” opportunity.
And she is ready to undergo a strict training regime: “I’m going to have to stay off the coffees and the chocolates.
“I’m gonna be old, stiff and awkward so I don’t want to be podgy as well.”
Other celebrities announced for Strictly 2022 are former Corrie stars Will Mellor, 46, and Kym Marsh, 46, and Radio 2’s Richie Anderson, 34.
They have also been joined by Jayde Adams – no relation to Kaye – who joked her entire career has led to this moment.
The Bristol-born comedian and actress, 27, said: “Since I watched the first series in 2004, I feel like every step I’ve taken in my career over the last 11 years was to be on Strictly. I’ve always watched it, apart from a brief hiatus in 2011 as I was relentlessly gigging every weekend (to try to get on Strictly).”
Jayde added: “I cannot begin to express the
emotions I am feeling.”
