PEP GUARDIOLA insists Jack Grealish is no £100million flop.

-

Grealish scored three goals and produced just three assists in his first season with Manchester City following his British-record arrival from Aston Villa last summer.

And he struggled to hold down a regular place in Guardiola’s team.

But the City boss believes the England midfielder can point to his title medal to show that he is still value for money.

Guardiola said: “The most important thing you need to know about Jack Grealish is that he won the Premier League.

“He came here to help us to win the Premier League – and he did it.

“We had two

other

chances to get to finals and we were close but unlucky – because football and destiny are like this.

“Jack is incredibly loved in the locker room. He is so humble and people like him.”

Grealish (below, taking advice from Guardiola) twice went close to scoring the goal that would have taken City to the Champions League Final after coming on as a substitute at Real Madrid.

But the Spaniards scored twice in two late minutes before knocking City out in extra-time and going on to lift the trophy.

Grealish was an unused substitute when City beat his former club Villa on the final day in dramatic fashion to win the title.

Guardiola admitted he will demand more from

Grealish this term

– and reckons he will get it, with the

World Cup approaching.

Guardiola added: “Of course, I want more – not just from Jack, but from everyone.

“I want more, definitely I want more. And he will have to fight.

“We have a small squad and competition up front is so big and they are really, really good players.

“But it is what it is. At the end of the day, everybody knows – Jack and every player.

“The much better you play, the more chance you have to play more minutes.

“And we are optimistic because he has arrived here well and he knows he has the World Cup around the corner.

“Gareth Southgate knows he has a big selection as there are many good players in his team and everyone knows what they have to do.”
