SUSPECT ON RUN IN BREAKING BAD BRIT MURDER
Man and his mum are accused
TWO people have been charged over the murder of a British Breaking Bad fan – but one is on the run.
Joaquin Roibal, 35, was being hunted last night as his mother Juanita, 67, was held following the New
Mexico killing of ex-civil servant Andy Jackson.
His body was found in the desert where much of
Breaking Bad – his favourite show and starring Bryan
Cranston as a teacher turned drug producer
– was filmed.
Andy, 51, moved from
Sheffield to the US after meeting a woman online. They married in the UK before returning to the States.
But the romance fell apart and he ended up as a handyman working for the Roibals in Albuquerque. Andy was murdered in 2017 – suffering two blows to the head – and dumped in the desert, wrapped in plastic. Last night local law enforcement told the Sunday Mirror that Roibal had been charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and tampering with evidence.
His mother is charged with conspiracy to commit first degree murder. State attorney John Duran said: “Joaquin is currently not in custody and has an active bench warrant. Once he is brought into custody we will be seeking to hold him there pending trial.”
Andy, who had a son aged 24, had changed his name to AJ Gryffin.
His brother Robin, 48, said: “It’s been a long five years since Andy’s murder, but this is a welcome development. We’re thankful to the authorities over in Albuquerque for not giving up on the case.
“There may still be a long road ahead, but we’re more hopeful than ever we’ll get justice for Andy now. That’s all we want as a family.”
