Creased up by cricket’s spud ban

-

I went to Canterbury this week to watch Kent’s last day in this year’s cricket season.

The crowd is of such an age these days that you’re treated to the finest array of walking frames and mobility scooters in the world.

In the café at the ground, I asked for a jacket potato. I was told they don’t do jacket potatoes as it was a match day, but they do sell them when it’s not a match day.

This makes it the only sports ground that’s livelier when there’s no match, and no one is there.

I love the place.
