Humanoid’s a Musk-have

- BY KAREN ROCKETT

HE can walk, wave and water your plants... Meet Optimus, a robot just unveiled by billionaire Elon Musk.

The SpaceX and Tesla entrepreneur reckons no home will want to be without one of his humanoids in the near future.

He hopes to make millions and sell them for under £18,000 – less than a third of the price of his Model Y car.

Prototype Optimus walked on stage at the Tesla offices in Palo Alto, California, on Friday and waved to the audience. A video of the bot carrying a box, watering plants and moving metal bars at the Tesla factory was also screened.

Mr Musk said: “Our goal is to make a useful humanoid robot as quickly as possible.” He pointed out humanoids are currently “missing a brain” but said Optimus would be “extremely capable”.

He has also said robots could one day be used as sex partners.

Hmm. Let’s just hope he’s being a bit Optimustic about that.
