30 dead in Hurricane Ian rampage
AN eerie sunlit calm after the storm descends on this flooded, shell-shocked Orlando neighbourhood devastated by Hurricane Ian.
It left at least 30 dead, with hundreds homeless and 60,000 without power as it battered its way through the South Carolina coast and Florida.
The Category 1 hurricane dumped record amounts of rainfall on some parts of the sunshine state, including 17 inches near Orlando. Rescuers continued the search for survivors yesterday as the weakening storm moved on to Appalachian North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia with winds down to around 35mph.
At least 27 people were killed in Florida mostly from drowning. One elderly couple died after their oxygen machines shut off when they lost power, authorities said.
