Poor little puffin ran out of puff

-

THIS exhausted puffin left builders baffled when it crash landed on their site.

The bird appeared in Grimsby, Lincs, which is 40 miles south of the nearest puffin colony at Bempton Cliffs near Bridlington.

Puffins are ranked as a red conservation-status bird, which means they are in critical decline.

Volunteers at Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue were alerted and the young adult was given an X-ray by a vet who said no bones were broken.

Showing off a photo of their patient, the group said: “We didn’t believe it at first, but sure enough, here it is! It’s suspected that a crash landing was to blame, but injuries only extend to minor contusions and exhaustion.

“We’re now working on our plan of rehabilitation along with a release location.

“This has been a big and expensive operation for the rescue, but entirely worth it!”

Around 10% of all puffins breed in the UK. They live at sea but come ashore to breed from March to August.
