Film that puts women at top

-

I was privileged to be invited to an exclusive screening of The Woman King, out on Tuesday.

It is probably one of the most female-empowering films I have seen in a long time.

The story is based on true events around the Agojie – an all-female warrior unit which protected the Kingdom of Dahomey in West Africa in the 1800s.

The film is stunning, thrilling and brilliant in so many ways, but, above all, it is led by beautiful, strong, talented black women. Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis plays the lead. She also produced the film, and fought for seven years to get it made.

Thank heavens she never stopped believing in the project... it’s the epitome of black female

empowerment.
