Million? Bat will be great
Leigh
Championship Play-off Final Today, 6.30pm by Julie Stott
KEVIN NICHOLAS claims a Batley victory in tonight’s Million Pound Game would be the “biggest sporting achievement in history.”
The Bulldogs sent shockwaves through the Championship by beating Featherstone to reach today’s showdown with Leigh.
But club chairman Nicholas says that would pale in comparison if they got promoted by bringing the Centurions to their knees.
He said: “If we were to pull it off, it would go down as the biggest sporting achievement in history, in my lifetime anyway. That’s how big it would be.”
The Bulldogs’ ground currently fails to pass the necessary Super League standards. But Nicholas, chairman for 25 years, insists they can come up to scratch if they get promoted.
He said: “The money will take care of itself if it happens. We will utilise it the best we can to improve the club. But it’s the rugby that’s important to me.”
Leigh have lost only once this season and have swatted Batley aside 52-0 and 64-6.
Centurions coach Adrian Lam said: “We need to respect our opponents. They have earned the right to be here.
“But it is important that we get back to Super League.”
