CONOR MAKES IT FAMILY AFFAIR
CONOR BENN cannot wait to see mum Caroline and twin sister India on Tuesday when the family will be reunited for the first time in almost four years.
By his own admission, he is an “emotional” man and the fact he will properly introduce the pair to his son Eli for the first time will make it a day to remember.
Their arrival will mean Benn – whose dad Nigel jetted in from the family home in Sydney at the start of August to help his son prepare to fight Chris Eubank Jnr – will have his parents and one of his sisters by his side for the first time in fight week.
And the fact he is not having to drop up to 15lb from his walkaround weight – the pair will meet at a 157lb catchweight rather than the 147lb welterweight limit Benn usually fights at – means the coming days will be a whole new experience for him.
Even so, Benn insists none of the above will stop him becoming the “horrible” piece of work he needs to be before he steps into the ring to face Eubank next Saturday, a day shy of the 29th anniversary of the second and last fight between their famous fathers.
Benn said: “My mum and my sister are coming over and they haven’t met my son yet.
“It’s the first time they are going to see me fight, so it’s a big one.
“It’s going to be very emotional. When you don’t live with your family, you see them getting older, you see everyone changing. I can see it all from a distance. So I’m looking forward to them coming over and seeing the life I’ve built.
“My mum messaged me last week and said we’ll celebrate, but I’m not in the headspace for that – we’ll celebrate after the fight.
“When I weight-cut, it affects my moods and I go a little bit horrible, a little bit ‘aggy’. You won’t get that this week because I’ve been able to refuel.
“Although it won’t be that, I’m hoping I can switch the horribleness on.”
